Salvaged Metal from Piano Warehouse Fire
By Don Winter

[ Richard Schneider asked the location of the fire. ]

To answer the question fully, the company, D.C. Moore, was
primarily a moving, storage and rental company that specialized in
pianos. They used to have a small rebuilding shop but closed it down
about 10 years ago and auctioned off about 100 pianos, many low end
reproducers. I attended and never raised my hand!

The piano warehouse fire was in Orlando, Florida. About 50 pianos
were destroyed, including new, old and reproducers. All were taken
to the dump with nothing scavenged other than the sole shift lever
I removed, as far as I know. The cause of the fire has not been made
public. I think it was just an accident -- no insurance fraud, arson,
etc. -- just one of those things.
