eBay Scam Alert
By Matthew Caulfield

Our family just received this request, purportedly from eBay, asking
for our passwords:

> Dear eBay Member, Please log into your eBay account using the
> following link to confirm you are still an active eBay user asap.
> http://cgi3.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?SignIn

 [snip]

Because it was written in such atrocious English, we were suspicious.
Checking the eBay site showed that this is the latest in a series of
spoofed eBay messages and fake eBay sites trying to get the passwords
of unwary people. eBay states that its real site URL begins with
http://cgi.ebay or http://scgi.ebay but NOT with the cgi3 construct.
eBay asks that anyone receiving such a fraudulent email forward a copy
to <spam@eBay.com>
