I have been rebuilding and tinkering with Edison cylinder players,
Edison Diamond Discs and quite a few 78 crank music machines for the
past few years.  In that part of the hobby it is usually understood
that the original paint on a bed plate, or the stenciling, is left
alone unless the player is really so trashed that it should be used
for parts only.

Does this rule of thumb generally apply to the bed plates on Regina
players?  The bed plate on the Regina I just acquired has lost most
of its gold color and is now more of a dark browny gold.  If I repaint
will I do more harm than good, or is this a bit more accepted on
wind-up music boxes?  What is the general consensus?  Thanks.
