Converting T-98 Welte to Play T-100 "Red" Rolls
By Robbie Rhodes

T-100 "Red" rolls are spooled to run from bottom to top take-up spool
as in other Welte and Weber instruments, while T-98 "Green" rolls run
from the top supply spool to the bottom take-up spool as in "Pianola"
type player pianos. Therefore it's difficult to make one spool frame
assembly that can play both roll styles.

But if a second spool frame is fitted then the instrument can easily be
equipped to play T-100 and T-98 and possibly also Licensee (American)
Welte-Mignon rolls. Mechanical or pneumatic switches would transfer
the control signals to the added lock-and-cancel valves as necessary.

The market value of the instrument would likely be increased if it
could play all three styles of Welte-Mignon music rolls.
