Modern Electric Wiring Standards for Antiques

Authenticity comes a very poor second to safety.  Always.

If you are restoring for your own use then you can do what you like,
but if your mother/son/dog gets hurt or your house burns then you'll
wish you did a better job.  If you're restoring for somebody else
then watch out for the lawyers.

In Europe, with our higher mains voltage, we have to be more aware
of electric shock hazards.  Our lawyers are probably a little less
shocking than across the pond.  Fire risk does not really depend on
voltage but houses can burn nicely anywhere.

There are many ways to achieve authenticity without compromising
safety.  To name but two: Modern wiring can often be disguised with
vintage sleeving.  Use modern protection methods such as RCD (=GFI).
