Reverting to Pedals for a Player Piano
By Jon Page

Since the electric vacuum is in-line, a rheostat could be installed
to decrease the vacuum strength and the pedals could be used, thus
creating a vac-assist pedaling, since the extra power is needed in
play mode. It will also quiet the noise of the vacuum turbine.

One needs to acquire a fan or motor controller, not a lamp dimmer,
as the amperage is insufficient on the latter.
