I deal with this mindset all the time.  It is almost _never_ impossible
to restore a player system.  Just because you can't do it, do not think
it is unrestorable.  I have made a living "Restoring the Unrestorable"
-- as you see that is my theme on my web site.  I have had numerous
folks tell me they had six other technicians visit their piano and they
all said it was not repairable.  I was the first to say it could be
like new again.

I agree that the Farrand push-up player is probably not something to
begin your player restoration career or hobby on.  Rebuild six or
eight upright player pianos first and you might be able to do the
push-up and actually finish it and have it work when done.

We restore all those things; the impossible just might take a little
longer and cost a little more.
