Internet Auction Bidding War
By Spencer Chase

Snipe bidding is a more effective way of self control than proxy
bidding. As soon as you enter a proxy bid, the bid is topped by
whoever has the highest bid up to the limit of your proxy. Then
you immediately know if your bid is not high enough already and are
tempted to edge up over what you intended to pay. With snipe bidding
you know nothing until the end, if you make it a rule to not check up
before the auction is over. I do it to protect myself against auction
frenzy.

There are other good reasons for snipe bidding but I consider then to
be inside secrets that I would not like to share.
