Cleaning Screws
By Bill Maguire

3M Corp. and Norton sell deburring wheels, a dense plastic abrasive
for use with an electric buffer. One problem is they don't clean out
inside the screw slot, but the rest of the screw has a much higher
shine than if a wire wheel were used.

These wheels come in many different sizes and grits. I have had the
same deburring wheel for several years and it gets heavy use. Deburring
wheels last a long time. I also have a vibratory tumbler. I believe
they don't do a good job removing rust without compromising the screw
threads.

In the King system I'm working on, the screws have to be painted gold
like the wood. In this instance I sandblasted, cleaned and painted
the screws. I have spent two or three 8-hour days just on cosmetics
for each player system.
