Cosmetic Detail In Piano Restoration
By Bill Sharkey

How much attention is given to the cleaning and polishing of the metal
parts, when you rebuild a player piano? For example, do you polish the
crankshaft on the air motor, do you polish the transmission assembly, do
you polish the metal on the pedal assembly, do you polish the metal
linkage slide bars?

If you do, what is the easiest way to clean and polish these metal
parts? Is there a chemical cleaning product that would be recommended?
Do any of you just leave the metal parts untouched? Tell me the pros
and cons, please. But again, those of you that do the cleaning and
polishing, please tell me your method.

Thanks,
Bill Sharkey
