Pouch Leather As Duo-Art Gasket Material

Well Eli,

I also worried about this problem, but as I recover all pneumatics with
kangaroo leather, I use the scraps to place under the pneumatics. Of
course, the leather on the pneumatics and pouches are coated with Dow
Corning 3140 Flowable Silicone, applied and wiped off until the shine is
gone. My pneumatics and pouches are also tested on a bubble jar, but
using pressure on the pneumatic, not vacuum. The leather placed under
the pneumatic as gasket material is not treated in any way, and is
applied with glue-pot hot glue.

I read somewhere that regular leather skived to proper thickness retains
only 10% of its original strength, while kangaroo retains 40% or so.
These figures are close to what I remember, I think.
