Identifying a 22-key Barrel Organ
By Todd Augsburger

Although organettes are more my specialty, I have recently purchased
a small monkey organ, and have begun restoration. And I need help!
Pictures are at http://www.rollerorgans.com/temp/barrel_organ.html

1) It's a 22-key, 29-pipe barrel-operated organ. Are there others
in this group who have _barrel_ organs rather than rolls/MIDI, etc.?
(I'm interested in antiques, so this is the kind of organ _I've_ been
looking for!)

2) There is no name or other identification that I can see, other than
what appears to be a French phrase I'd translate as "1st class medal".
Is there anyone who can offer clues regarding identification? What
should I look for? I'm specifically interested in the approximate date
it may have been made.

3) It needs tuning. Should the second rank (7 notes) be tuned in
unison, or celeste? Opinions welcome. What do modern organs use?

4) I'd like to carry it using a strap and prop, rather than a cart.
Does anyone have any experience with them? Can someone point me to
photos of same?

Thanks _much_ for any and all comments you might have!
