Teflon Bushings in Steinway Pianos
By Eliyahu Shahar

Lynn Bullock is right once again about the Teflon bushings: they are
a nuisance and should not remain in the piano. I once considered
buying a Steinway OR from which the Duo-Art was removed. The problem
was that in addition to removing the Duo-Art, they also removed too
many other things (they changed the legs, replaced the pedals, filled
in all the gaps left by the Duo-Art) and replaced the whippens with the
Teflon bushed whippens. I found, however that the whippens are easily
replaced with old replacements that can be obtained cheaply on eBay.

If anyone has a Steinway with Teflon bushings, it may be worthwhile to
simply replace with old-new stock (and rebuild them as necessary).
