My Favorite Nickelodeon
By Ken Rosen

My own interest in both Wurlitzer pipe organs and roll played music
comes from two wonderful Wurlitzer machines. One was an enormous
PianOrchestra with roll changer in an arcade in the "Fun Zone" of
Balboa Island in Newport Beach, Calif. The other was what I learned
years later was the very last Wurlitzer 165 Band Organ, in Griffith
Park, Los Angeles.

Thinking back, as I understand it rolled off the line in 1939. When
I sat transfixed in front of it in the mid 1950's as a small boy,
it was, relatively speaking, almost new. Even now, I recall that it
all worked, was in good tune, and sounded just great.

Moral: gotta get little kids to hear 'em. A few will love 'em.

Thanks
