Play-Rite Composite Band Organ Rolls
By Russ Doering

I can guess how Play-Rite made the draft copy of the composite
Wurlitzer 165 roll. The roll reader [mounted atop the perforator] is
normally chain driven from the punch machine at one-to-one speed ratio,
but the reader can also run from a variable-speed gear box. A copy of
each borrowed original roll was punched with corrected tempo, then the
copies were cut and spliced to make a new composite production master.
