Wilcox & White 44-note vs. Aeolian 46-note Rolls
By Kevin McElhone

I have been trying for many years to find 44-note Wilcox & White rolls
for several people on MMD but have never found any. I have plenty of
Aeolian 46-note rolls in stock, both new re-cuts and good original
rolls. I believe the hole spacing is the same (5 holes to the inch).

Does anyone know the tuning scale of the Wilcox 44-note instrument,
particularly at the bottom [bass] end? Aeolian has only four notes
in the bottom octave and is then chromatic after that.

I am wondering if you can cut something off the left end of the Aeolian
paper and the spool to allow these rolls to be played on Wilcox & White
44-note machines? Has anyone ever tried this?
