Roll-Operated Player Pipe Organ Census
By Daniel D. Tenerowicz

I was reticent to include my Aeolian player console in the survey, but
after seeing Mr. Leonard's posting of his console, I figured I will add
mine to the list.

My Aeolian console was built in 1902 as opus 921B for the residence of
John W. Bush in Buffalo, New York. It was soon moved to the Schmidt
residence in Derby, New York. The console was located in the ballroom
of the residence, with the sound coming up through a tone chute from
the basement. It remained playable until the late 1960's/early 1970's,
when the priests that purchased the residence parted out the pipe
organ. The former pipe chamber is now a large restroom.

The console has a 116-note player which is currently undergoing
restoration. The 116-note roll player is also capable of playing 58-
note Orchestrelle rolls. A unique feature of this early console is
that it utilized drawknobs engraved with Italian nomenclature.
