The First Collectors
By Max Huff

In 1953, I drove south of Tulsa, Oklahoma, heading to Texas. In
a small town in southern Oklahoma (possibly Atoka) I stopped for
breakfast at a popular local restaurant. It was in the front section
of a large building.

The rest of the building was crammed completely full of instruments
of all kinds. The only ones I can recall were the five or six Mills
Violanos, including a couple of Double Violanos. All were playable.
I stopped there several times during the 1950s and early '60s to show
my children the old instruments.

Some time later, I heard the restaurant burned. I never heard if
everything was destroyed and I never knew the owner's name.
