Rebuilding a Style F Solo Orchestrelle
By Greg Coe

Hello again fellow MMDers, I have a Style F Solo Orchestrelle which
had a very bad rebuilding done 20 or so years ago. This is a later
Orchestrelle and in each of the nine tone chambers there are 58
little pneumatics.

We have deduced that the span of each motor (pneumatic) is critical.
Because we have nothing original as a guide we are taking an educated
guess as to the correct span of the pneumatic. In the last rebuilding
the span varies between one inch and one-and-a-half inches within the
one tone chamber. It really is all over the place.

We have only finished one bank of 58 (with a span of one inch and an
eighth) and but there are some issues with the speaking volume and
repetition. Our experiments with different thicknesses of leather have
shown us that the internal resistance varies.

Any feedback from someone who has successfully completed one of these
instruments would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Greg Coe
