Milhous Auction Prices Paid
By Randy Hammond

I agree with Bob Taylor's assessment of the prices paid for the musical
instruments in the Milhous collection. Auctions are very interesting
and they can go either way. As someone who has bought a lot of
merchandise over the years at auction, all it takes are two buyers with
heavy checkbooks. In the antique business, it is not the knowledgeable
buyer as they will know what something is worth. Dealers and or
experienced collectors know what to look for, what an item is
relatively worth as well as replacement and or restoration costs.

This sale definitely had museum quality items but even the common items
seemed way over market value. I have a feeling that the auction company
and the owners are extremely pleased with the final results and that
there are (or there will be) many with significant buyers remorse.
