Making a Roll Chuck for 65/88-note Pianola
By Jeffrey R. Wood

The 88-note adapter chuck for the Aeolian 65-88 note spoolbox is often
missing and is a hard-to-find item. As an alternative to making one
from scratch, take the chuck from a scrapped 88-note action and pull
out the steel rod and enlarge the inside diameter to easily slide over
the 65-note chuck.

You'll need a cutter capable of making a flat-bottomed hole, gradually
increasing the depth until the average 65-note roll and the average
88-note roll are fully compatible without a manual or automatic
adjustment of the tracking system, whichever type is used. A pin
passing through the adapter and engaging with the slot in the 65-note
chuck will keep the latter from turning inside the adapter.
