Crank-organ Plays With André Rieu Orchestra
By Ingmar Krause

On catching up with some of my MMD reading I came across this posting
in 121110 MMDigest. As soon as I had read "Rieu" and crank-organ,
I hastened to click the link and fast forward to the time mentioned
(circa 3:30). I ended up being far more astonished by who was sitting
in the audience -- alas, I hadn't read the part about Anthony Hopkins
being the composer!

As far as the organ is concerned, it is indeed a real barrel organ!
But -- I have to either disappoint or amaze you -- it doesn't make
a toot! The entire section is played by the orchestra, imitating
the organ in parts. If you look closely, at time 3:45 you will see
the anchor-lever in the "up" position which means the clavis is not
touching the barrel. ... And, the fool that I was expected Rieu to
play in concert with a Dutch street organ <sigh!>. Oh, well...
