Duo-Art Pianist Frank Milne on Pipe Organ Rolls?
By Rowland Lee

I'm sure Bob Taylor is correct in his comments regarding the true
identity of Duo-Art organist "Marvin Abbott". If proof is needed,
just have a listen to this Frank Milne 1930's Medley Duo-Art
piano roll on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPsmbJY6VG8
Attachment thumbnail The introduction to this Duo-Art piano roll is virtually identical to that on the Duo-Art organ roll of Carroll Gibbons' beautiful "Garden in the Rain". Indeed, the third tune on the medley roll [at time 3:21] is "Garden in the Rain" -- a virtually identical arrangement, in terms of its harmonic details, to the performance on the Duo-Art organ roll. The organ roll is wonderful (especially so in Bob Taylor's new recording featuring the echo division of his organ). It seems a shame that this organ roll is just about the only one produced by Aeolian in this suave 1930's 'dance band' style; most of the popular music produced for the Aeolian pipe organ, although excellent, was of a slightly earlier era and it is good to hear the contrast which this roll provides.
