Piano Rolls in France
By Philip Jamison

It was interesting to read John Phillips' comments on his Parisian
roll purchase. The "Marché aux puces de Clignancourt" is a fun trip.
I once got most of a Limonaire organ there (the pipes, anyway) and
brought them all back to the States in my luggage -- pre-9/11, of
course!

Piano rolls are not as common in France as here, and they seem to
cost more -- just check French eBay. And speaking of "Diana" rolls,
I got a couple boxes full with a piano I imported from Austria years
ago. The seller had purchased them in Spain. They are great rolls
made of a high-quality paper. My favorites are the medleys of Spanish
stage musicals and the tango-type music. Some have Themodist punchings.
