Sight Trumps Sound in Music Performance Judgment
By Ray Bauer

Yes, at least it emphasizes sound. The Wurlitzer "Wonder Light",
automated band organ figures and Liberace are examples. Here are
several more sight with sound examples:

1. I give short technical talks at our Miata sports car club meetings.
I always use color slides on a screen to emphasize the where and why
of emergency equipment: fire extinguisher, jumper cables, etc.

2. The first pilot instrument trainer, invented by Edwin Link, had
only a moving box with the instruments moving and no outside reference.
This taught us to fly by instruments only.

The Visualator trainer on the huge C-5 transport plane had simulated
"windows" that depicted runway conditions. The student pilot then knew
when to make a missed approach if something was on the runway.
