"A Shine On Your Shoes" on Clark 1397

    Orchestrion Rolls

Speaking of "A Shine On Your Shoes," this number is on a swell Clark
orange and black label "Xylophone" A-Roll, "All American," from late
1932. It originated in the 1932 Broadway musical "Flying Colors"
starring Charles Butterworth, Clifton, Webb and Patsy Kelly. Here
played by Roger Wolfe Kahn, and including "Louisiana Hayride," also
from the show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oa8gGGvommQ

It would not be long before Clark resorted to their depression-era "black label" as a cost-cutting measure as well as showing a noticeable drop-off in musical quality, as arrangers and editors were let go. But for a late Clark "orange and black," this roll really sings! Mark Forer [ Mark submitted this message with a scan of the roll box end [ label. I've uploaded the label as: [ http://www.mmdigest.com/Attachments/13/09/20/130920_Forer_Clark_1397.jpg
