Johnny Maddox "The World's Greatest Piano Rolls"
By Art Reblitz

Dick Kroeckel, a long-time friend of Johnny Maddox, just pointed out
to me that only the first three or four piano roll record albums were
recorded on Johnny's Jewett A-roll piano. Subsequent volumes were made
on a player piano -- a Steinway, as Dick recalls.

The shortened versions of certain QRS tunes would have been on
Automatic, Cremona, or Clark "A" rolls. All of these brands used QRS
88-note masters as a source for many of the tunes. To fit ten tunes
on one "A" roll, each tune was usually shorter than its 88-note QRS
counterpart by one chorus, or by one verse and chorus.
