Adjusting the English Pedal-Electric Duo-Art
By Bob Taylor

Why do the English drive on the left and Americans drive on the right?
There doesn't seem to be any advantage to either system and we all
manage to get to our respective destinations with the same efficiency.

Another example of opposite thinking occurs in Aeolian's "Temponamic"
control knob. American-built Duo-Arts use the Temponamic knob to
control the "Accompaniment" level while the English-built instruments
use the Temponamic to control "Theme" levels.

The restoration of my English Pedal-Electric (PEDA) Steinway continues
to challenge me to "reverse" my thoughts. Prior expert restoration
on this PEDA instrument is holding up well in most areas, including
the expression box, so I have not seen the inside of this box (or any
English expression box), and thus I'm just a little uncertain about
its regulation.

Until recently, I have only operated this piano in the Duo-Art mode.
I am now attempting to get the Themodist operation regulated. While
still using the electric pump, I find the minimum Accompaniment level
to be very much too loud. How is this fixed?

On his web page, MMDer Julian Dyer explains the PEDA system very
nicely:

Julian does not cover the regulation in this particular area. Perhaps
someone can offer suggestions.
