Adjusting Duo-Art Valve Travel
By D. L. Bullock

The valve travel you see in an untouched original Duo-Art is not what
they set at the factory. Not only did the leather pack down but it
likely shrank, especially from being in the Texas climate in Wichita
Falls, Texas.

You could use the original .044" to .050" travel but the Duo-Art is
very susceptible to fussy tiny changes in travel. I strongly suggest
you use .035" with no valves set wider than .040" and please adjust
using the pouch, not a finger under the valve. Using the finger can
cause travel to be too narrow when the pouch raises the valve.

Use shims of key level papers to change travel, if you did not already
know about this. You can cut out your own if you have a variety of
paper thicknesses. I use papers in thickness .002", .003", .005", .010"
and thicker if new leather is thinner, and it usually is today with our
problem leaky leather so much of which is out there. (The thick
leathers leak more than thin because leather must today be chrome
tanned for longer life.)

You will never have any problems with Duo-Art valve repetition unless
the valve travel is less than .031".
