3D Printing of Player Piano Parts
By Bernt Damm

I have considered 3D printing for some years already but have so far
failed to come up with anything in a player piano that would need to
be printed. Anything that could be done would need expert modelling
(drawing) first -- that takes heaps of time just by itself.

And don't forget that it would take weeks to print 88 pieces of
something much bigger than a 1/4" washer. And it is all plastic; the
3D metal printing process is still way too expensive for this purpose.

I have abandoned the idea and invested into a desktop CNC milling
machine. Whilst useful, it suffers from similar issues in that the
drawing and/or modelling often takes longer than just manually making
a part.
