Large Barrel Organs by Eugene DeKleist
By Gordon Ramsey

I received a letter from the Herschell Carrousel Museum asking for
funds to help purchase the B.A.B. perforator, and I was happy to
respond to with a donation; the letter also mentioned a deKleist
barrel organ, giving no details about it.

I have two questions: can anyone tell me about the organ the museum
is getting, and can anyone tell me if any of the 100-key deKleist
barrel organs still exist? My most sincere thanks in advance, and
especially to the MMD for keeping this forum alive and well.

[ Museum Director Rae Proefrock wrote about the purchase:
 [
[ "This B.A.B. perforator will enable us to create music rolls for the
[ Artizan band organ in our collection. The purchase also includes
[ an 1880s DeKleist barrel organ, one of the earliest band organs
[ produced in the US, and the forerunner of the Wurlitzer Company."
