Foot-pumped Marshall & Wendell Upright Ampico
By Mike Walter

John Hupcey recently inquired if there were foot-pumped Ampico
player pianos. I will respond that "yes" there were foot-pumped
Ampico pianos. I did have for a short time a Marshall & Wendell
foot-pumped Ampico that came from the hills of South-Western New York
State. It was a rural area that probably didn't have electricity until
the late teens.

I didn't have it for too long but, if my memory serves me correctly,
it had only one expression unit and crescendo for the treble side and
maybe a lever which followed the line on the bass side. It was not
operating when I sold it and I don't know what happened to it. It was
basically made for homes without electricity. Sorry I can't give you
more information about it.

Best wishes,
Mike Walter
