Visiting DeBence Antique Music World
By Jim Neher

DeBence Museum Joys

Last month, with two sons in tow, I finally made the four-hour drive
to the DeBence Antique Music World in Franklin, Pennsylvania. What
a delightful experience! The tour guide and volunteers were a pleasure
to meet, but to be greeted by Scotty Greene I had to venture through
the shop door upstairs where I found him on the floor, doing an oil
change on the Link AX (just kidding!). We had a delightful chat and
he played music for me.

Most of the museum holdings are neatly arranged in gigantic rooms where
you can roam at your leisure. I never realized the huge variety of
1960s organs and console stereos they have -- and it is a player piano
paradise. They have an upright piano with a Janko keyboard on which
you can discover for yourself what the fuss is about.

Their CD rack is _not_ filled with other people's recordings; there
are a couple dozen original CD's, and the two I bought were splendid.
I also took home a set of drink coasters stamped from LP labels. Down
the street was a restaurant with outdoor seating that was very fine.

If you have been procrastinating, I heartily recommend visiting our
dear friends at DeBence. Check the web site for seasonal hours.
