"Simple" Trick for Simplex and other Unit Pneum
By Luke Myers

By chance, I discovered a "simple" and TEMPORARY technique to get a
ciphering Simplex or similar unit pneumatic to work normally.

Disclaimer: This method is NOT a proven guarantee to fix a ciphering note!

1. Unscrew or pry the unit pneumatic from the main board, making sure the
break is clean.
2. Grip the pneumatic firmly with one or two hands and vigorously shake it
in an all-around circular motion. This will cause loose shellac particles
or foreign bits of stuff to fall out of the main pneumatic opening and out
from the top valve seat and pouch input channel.
3. Reinstall the pneumatic and test it again.

In my case, the ciphering pneumatic worked just like it should have, after
I did the above procedure. I thought I would share this procedure with
others who may have the same problem with their unit pneumatics.

P.S. You can probably forget about this procedure if your player "played
well, back in 1930 when Grandpa got it new."
