Dohnanyi's Welte roll 494 of Hungarian Rhapsody No 13

Seeing that this recently popped up in discussion, I thought that
readers might be interested in the following video I have made of
Welte 494 -- wholly simulated via my roll editor, all from a scan
of the original roll:

Attachment thumbnail Welte-Mignon piano roll 494, Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No 13 recorded in Leipzig by Ernst von Dohnanyi in 1905. This is the T98 ('Green Welte') version; same content as every version of the roll, but formatted as close as Welte got to "standard" piano roll form. There's no lock and cancel coding, so it's easy to follow the coding and its impact on dynamics. I recently installed software to capture a video of my roll editor scrolling through the roll, so you can see it, view the screen display of perforations and the results of the simulated expression, and hear it. It's interesting to see the coding in action graphically, it gives a different insight into the roll. The notes on the video describe what you see. The Welte expression emulator is quite evolved but certainly not finished. A real roll should always sound better.
