Wurlitzer 165 Band Organ Tune Identified
By Dan Robinson

Today I made a discovery which should be of interest to devotees
of Wurlitzer 165 band organ music. It concerns the identification
of a tune on an early Wurlitzer roll.

Roll 6507, tune 10, has long been thought to be "A Perfect Day"
by Carrie-Jacobs Bond. And it is -- up to a point. It is actually
a medley of the composer's three best-known tunes: "A Perfect Day,"
"I Love You Truly" and "Just Awearyin' For You."

Here is the medley played by the Seabreeze Park Wurlitzer 165,
lost to fire in 1994. (I uploaded this recording to YouTube in
2010. Unfortunately I can't access my old account there; being
unable to edit the video description, I added a comment with the
expanded tune information.)

Attachment thumbnail I have updated the listing for the roll in the online Wurlitzer catalog here (scroll down a few rolls to 6507): https://wurlitzer-rolls.com/index1.html If anyone on the MMD owns a Play-Rite recut of this roll and would like a corrected, Wurlitzer-style label, I can email it, or print and mail. (And I would love to know whether the incomplete identification originated with Wurlitzer, but trying to track down an original copy of the roll, with original label, is a task for another day.)
