My name is Brad Greening. I joined this list a few months ago and been
mostly lurking up 'til now. I'm not a frenzied collector, but I do have a
collection of roll music that I enjoyed listening to in the past and would
like to add to that collection in the future. My wife and I acquired the
rolls#004# and a player piano from her aunt (who has since passed away). (The
piano had a banjo effect that was a neat thing to hear.) The problem is that a
couple of years ago the roll motor and gear drive unit wore out and we don't
do much listening now because it's tedious to turn the roll by hand.

The piano is a Kimball player piano (it's about 22 years old, model # P795,
serial # S48142). The motor and gear assembly that turns the rolls had a drive
gear wear out. I called the Kimball Piano Division for information on
repairing the piano and was told that since it was more than 10 years old it
was no longer supported by Kimball.

I'd like to be able to restore the player part of this piano, and play my
collection of rolls again. Is it possible to just replace the worn gear, or
does the entire motor/gear drive unit have to be replaced? Does anyone
have experience with a situation like this, or know someone that does?
Are their any sources from which to purchase the proper gear or to replace the
motor and gear assembly as well as other parts?

Please reply. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank-you,¶
