[ I'd be interested to know if those of you with
[ Web Browsers can display the Graphics files from John Grant's
 [ solenoid valve subscription project:
 [ ftp://ftp.foxtail.com/pub/automatic-music/misc/valvesub/valveskt.bmp
 [ ftp://ftp.foxtail.com/pub/automatic-music/misc/valvesub/valvepic.bmp
[ These are in a format which is common on the PC but I don't know
[ if its one supported directly by the common Web Browsers.

I tried to view these files directly from Netscape v.2.0 with no luck. I
know that [.gif] and [.jpg] graphics formats will read directly.
Perhaps with an additional 'plug-in' it's possible. -Pete¶

 [ Pete,
[ Thanks for the feedback. I had another subscriber mention
[ that when hi retrieves these with Netscape that it starts
[ the Microsoft Paint program. There's a table of "MIME" types
[ that can be edited. I still have a lot of trouble with
[ Mime Types using the Unix version of Netscape. I don't (yet)
[ know how to edit the Mime types file on Unix. On the PC
[ Netscape has a "dialog box" for adjusting these. On Unix
[ its harder theres a text file you have to edit by hand. I've
[ not yet found the documentation for the format of the file. This
[ evening I tried to download the Koala Bear from Kodak's Photo CD
[ archive and Netscape tried to display it on my screen in Ascii.
 [ I was not amused.
 [
[ I'm experimenting with a program that does image type conversion.
[ I'll see if I can convert the .bmp files in the foxtail archive
[ to .jpg format as an experiment.

 [ Jody
