I think we can dismiss the likelihood of "Wm. Lawrence" being a
pen-name for Scott Joplin.  Joplin loaned his name as arranger
to colleagues in hopes of increasing sales.  It would make no sense
for him to publish something under the cover of an unknown name.
  Matthew Caulfield took the first necessary step in checking
copyright records.  This confirms that there was another publication
in 1909.  Is this another rip-off of Joplin?  Well, Rob, you would
know. Listen to the roll.¶
   It would also be good if someone could check the copyright deposit
of the Lawrence sheet music & compare it with Joplin's.¶
   BTW, I found that there are two different sets of plates for the
publication of Joplin's Fig Leaf, both apparently early and
*almost* identical.  I wonder if the roll & sheet music anomalies
are related.
