Carl Frei's Dutch Masters
By Matthew Caulfield

(No, not about cigars)

I sent the Keller-Kern list of Carl Frei music masters to Fred
Dahlinger, curator, Circus World Museum, Baraboo, Wisc., at his
request. He phoned to say it came and explained the absence of Dutch
tunes from the list (which someone here noticed) thusly. Frei was
deported as an alien from Holland at the conclusion of WWII and was
forced to leave behind all his Dutch production. All of that is
now lost, its whereabouts unknown, if it still exists. What survives
as the Keller-Kern archives is the work Frei did after the war in
Freiburg i. Breisgau.
