Loud Playing Duo-Arts
By Craig Brougher

Interestingly, I received another complaint from a rebuilder who has
had a Duo-Art Restored for him by another rebuilder, and cannot
approach the rebuilder about the problem, so he faxed me about what to
do. Pete Knobloch is having the same problem, and has been off-line
presently, but to my knowledge has not yet solved the problem, either.
Both are questioning the springs, but unless they are using either two
solo springs in place of a theme spring, or unless their old springs
are so stretched out they have to tighten them up to the point that
there is over 1-1/4" sticking out the bottoms of each adjuster (or so)
then I doubt that this is the problem, either.

When charting Pete Knoblock's intensities, they go wild. The theme
slope is far too great, with a huge jump from #13 step up. The solo
slope is even worse and starts to go nuts about #9 or so. That piano
would blow you out of the room!

I have restored hundreds of Duo-Arts and have never seen this problem,
personally. So I wonder if others have the same complaint? Maybe we
could get a thread going here that would be helpful to everybody.
