I am writing this note at the request of Marc Sachnoff, a reader and
(infrequent) contributor to the Digest.

During our telephone conversation today, I  mentioned to Marc that I
have images of nearly 500 Ampico rolls on disk.  These roll images were
originally created in the early 1970s by scanning a number of Ampico
rolls for the purpose of providing music for the Cassette Converter,
which was for sale at that time.  In all, about 20 hours of music were
eventually organized into complete programs and offered for sale for
use with the Cassette Converter.  The rest of the music remained on
master tapes until the late 1980s, when I set myself the task of
transferring the entire body of work to disk, which I accomplished
within about a year.

On learning of the existence of this material, Marc immediately
suggested that I post a brief query in the Digest to find out if there
is any interest in making this material widely available.  Hence, this
note.

If you have an interest in obtaining a copy of these roll images,
please respond through the Digest.  In this way, the discussion will be
open for all members to follow.  The questions I have, following Marc's
suggestion, are as follows:

     (1) Is there widespread interest in the dissemination of this
         material?  How many people could in fact make use of it in one
         form or another?

     (2) What form would be useful to others?  I have in mind that the
         material could be provided in two separate forms:  standard
         MIDI files (with note velocity information) for playing on
         synthesizers, and control files intended for operating Ampico
         instruments by means of the appropriate electromagnetic
         interface.  Are there other forms that I am not aware of?

If there is enough interest, I will make the material available to others.
