Hi.  Here I go again needing help.  The four-section lock & cancel
valve (L&C) on my Seeburg H has a problem, but only in the #3 position
(the flute pipes).  The "off" signal overrides the "on" signal, cutting
the pipes back off all the time.  It is a 25 year-old restoration so I
guess I should expect problems.  I have done many restorations myself,
including many machines with lock & cancels.  So why am I asking for
help?  I am either getting lazy or just don't want to go on another of
my "rip and tear" operations and replace everything.  Would this work?

1.  Turn on the machine.  Disconnect the tubes from the tracker bar to
the "off" and "on" signal nipples for lock & cancel.  Alternately,
uncover and recover the nipples (with fingers) for "off" and the "on"
L&C.

2.  If the L&C now works properly, then there is an air leak in the
tubing from the L&C back to the tracker bar for the "off" signal line
on the #3 flute pipes L&C.

3.  If the problem still exists  (the L&C immediately returns to "off"
when the "on" is activated),  then the leather pouch in the "off" L&C
is too porous or cracked, or some trash is stuck under the leather
valve seat (or the seat has deteriorated).

Before I go in and start splitting glued L&C valve blocks, are there
any other simple solutions?  I don't think it is a bleed problem
because the "off" and "on" positions work just fine, but the "off"
overrides the "on" and appears to be sending an "off" signal all the
time.

How about helping out a "tired" restorer (of nearly 40 years) before I
start "splitting hairs or valve blocks"?
