Dating Aeolian Players
By Don Teach

The Atlas gives 1930 as a date for Stroud piano 96152 for Aeolian built-
in-USA piano. For the ones made in England it would have been past 1960,
so yours is proably American. Does your Stroud have the tubing from the
tracker bar go through the keys, or does it go around the sides of the
piano action? Most player restorers date these pianos by the style of
player mechinism. If it has the original hammers then you midght find a
pencil date on the hamers.

The Atlas is not accurate for dating for many of the players (definitely
wrong for Seeburg). We nickelodeon collectors have been collecting
serial numbers and pencil dates on Western Electric and Seeburg pianos
for several years. I had always hoped the Atlas would use them.

My phone number for Dick Hack, maker of Violano Rolls, is his unlisted
store number. They answer the phone 8-8, his last two digits. Just ask
for Dick. Nancy Fratti gave his home number. I use 410-841-6688 during
the day. He has advertised in the Amica and MBSI bulletins.
