Focus of MMD
By Ken Vinen

This digest is a most wonderful way to share information for hard to
locate items whose makers could never afford to advertise. Sharing
technical tips is a great benefit too, especially to those with less
experience. It's a wonderful way to benefit from some ones mistakes and
let them benefit from yours.

It is really too bad that some days the text grinds on and on venting
personal opinions that really have nothing to do with making a
mechanical instrument come back to life. Remember, you as the consumer
have all the power at your command. That's why everything in this
world effectively has a control switch that is in your hands. If you
don't like a product -- don't buy it. If you don't like the quality of
some new player roll -- don't buy it. If there is certain music you
detest -- don't listen to it. If a company fails to live up to your
service expectations, don't deal with them.

The real point is the choice is yours and the same right of choice should
be afforded to everyone. Nobody has the right to take up the position
of dictating what should be accepted. It is the right of the individual
to make his or her or selection or choice. That is why we live in a free
country. Advertisers pay good money to try to influence our judgment,
and it is still our choice to listen and follow or not.

If the editors of this digest were to do anything different at all, I
would like to see them keep the submissions more focused on the truly
important thing -- that being the rescue, restoration and care of
mechanical musical instruments.

Respectfully submitted by

Ken Vinen
