Duo-Art Vorsetzer
By Tom Steuer

Hello, everyone. During the past week or so, there was talk of "Duo-Art
Vorsetzers." I have one. It was built for the late Irving Tushinsky of
Superscope by Mel Shores in Los Angeles in 1965. Mel also built another
identical one for Irving's brother, Joe Tushinsky. That one is in Japan
now, or so I hear. I did not know there were any others extant and would
be interested in learning more about them. Mine, of course, has a Duo-Art
stack with Duo-Art valves and it performs great.

There were some modifications to mine: instead of a wind motor there is
a wonderful Minarik variable-speed electric motor; also mine did not
originally have a built-in motor or pump, but instead had a large remote
vacuum. I subsequently added a Lee or Lamb box-type motor that is in the
bottom of the unit, so that it is self-contained.

I do not think that Aeolian ever built a Duo-Art push-up player. I would
be interested to know what other units are available out there.

Best regards,

Tom Steuer
