Ian Whitcomb
By Matthew Caulfield

Irving Berlin's 'nephew', Ed, mentioned in yesterday's MMD the name Ian
Whitcomb. I have a CD from Stomp Off Records of his rather unusual
singing of some good old Tin Pan Alley stuff. I would like to know more
about this fellow, especially since he has such a gorgeous wife in his
duetist, Regina Whitcomb.

 [ Editor's note:
 [
[ Ian's a friend of mine, and lives with his gorgeous wife nearby in
[ Pasadena CA. He's from UK; many years ago I would tease him about
[ being 'deported' for six month intervals. He would grin and reply,
[ "I visit home (London) to refresh my memory of the Queens English!"
 [
[ Ian is my local source of information about both the English Music
[ Hall and American Vaudeville genres. Among his entertaining books
[ is "Irving Berlin and Ragtime America" (1987), ISBN 0-7126-1664-0.
