Ivory Cement
By Larry Lobel

Craig Brougher's and Gary Rasmussen's advice about ivory cement is of
great interest to me. I want very much to "do it the right way," and
I've tried using the cloth wafers impregnated with ivory cement for
re-gluing original ivories, but find it very difficult to get good
results.

The problem is that the moistened wafers make the ivory slip around as
you tighten the clamps, and you never know where it's going to end up.
Also, the brass clamping plates sold for this purpose are slightly
*larger* than the keytops, making it very hard to see or feel the edges
of the ivory to align it to the key. I'd be very interested to know,
Craig and Gary, how you overcome these problems.

Thanks for all the effort you put into your postings on the MMD to share
your knowledge and experience; it's very helpful and much appreciated by
me and others, I'm sure.
