Do-It-Yourself Piano Repair
By Scott Olson

Just a few quick comments on the new piano tuning and repair mentioned
in MM Digest 980201.

There have been lots of books like this before. I haven't read this
one, but I don't know how a person that reads one book could do a very
good job with tuning, not to mention regulation. Many times I have
gotten to a piano or organ that was really out of whack and found out
later that someone was "saving money" by working on it themselves.
I guess that if you are on your own equipment, do whatever you wish,
but ... I have had to do much more work than necessary to lots of
church instruments; one was beyond reasonably-priced help.

I don't know very many tuner-techs that are rolling in dough -- most of
us just make a living, and need this very type of work. Sooo, please
be aware of this and thanks for the "Soap Box".
