Patent Searches
By William Grimes

A much better source of patent information is the IBM site:

    http://www.patents.ibm.com

Here you can search by keyword or patent number, and retrieve the claims
and abstract in the first screen. If you want the entire patent to be
displayed, including the figures, you can request that as well, and
download/print everything. The site will send printed copies by mail for
a fee. Patents back to 1971 can be searched in this way.

These are ALL US patents, not just those of IBM itself or in its areas
of interest. I use this site all the time, as I am a professional patent
translator and it is invaluable for searching for background information
and terminology (I work from German and French into English).
